A Clash of Clans Builder Hall 5 base should make the Builder Hall difficult to reach while forcing attackers through overlapping damage. Our best overall design uses a compact protected core, three short wall compartments, and an uneven outer ring that creates poor troop paths.
This is a Builder Base guide, not a Home Village Town Hall 5 layout. We place every building to protect the Hall, preserve air coverage, and make replays easy to diagnose. Copy the compact plan first, then switch to the pathing version if your defenses are losing to a specific attack style.
What the best Builder Hall 5 base must protect: Builder Hall, air defenses, and entry lanes
The best BH5 base protects the Builder Hall and the routes that reach it. Keep these priorities in order:
- Builder Hall: Place it in the middle or rear half of the base, inside its own wall compartment. Do not leave it on an outer edge where a small troop group can claim it immediately.
- Air defenses: Separate Firecrackers and Air Bombs into different pockets. Each should cover a Hall approach without allowing one ground funnel to bypass both.
- Entry lanes: Make the shortest route pass a Crusher, Double Cannon, or Hidden Tesla before troops reach the core. Attackers should have no safe straight line from an outer building to the Hall.
Use storages and high-hit-point buildings to delay troops, but do not surround every defense with clutter. Clear targeting is useful: we want attackers to enter a planned lane, then encounter concentrated damage and a trap.
Clash of Clans Builder Hall 5 base: compact core, wall compartments, traps, and bait buildings
This is our best Builder Hall 5 base for balanced defense against ground and air attacks. Build it as three connected compartments rather than one large box.
- Central core: Put the Builder Hall in the center compartment with the Crusher and Guard Post nearby. Place the Crusher on the side most likely to receive the first ground push, not behind the Hall where it may never activate.
- Side compartments: Put the Double Cannon and one Cannon in the left pocket, with the Hidden Tesla covering the gap between that pocket and the Hall. Place the Multi Mortar and second Cannon on the opposite side to create crossfire rather than stacking all ground damage together.
- Air coverage: Put the Air Bombs behind the core, covering the most direct air route. Place Firecrackers in opposite rear and side pockets, with one protected by a storage. Keep them separated so one entry cannot disable all air defense value.
- Walls: Use a closed Hall compartment, then short wall sections around the Crusher and Multi Mortar. Leave no easy corner opening, but create a longer turn around one side with a wall offset. This makes ground troops spend time walking while defenses fire.
- Traps and outer buildings: Put a Spring Trap in the one-tile approach immediately before the Crusher, a Push Trap on the turn that leads toward the Hall, and a Mega Mine near the most attractive first deployment square. Use smaller Mines on the opposite lane to punish a split attack. Put collectors, storages, the Clock Tower, Barracks, and Army Camps around the outside as deliberate funnel buildings, but keep them far enough apart that troops cannot walk straight from one to the next.
Place Archer Towers on two different outer sides, with one set to the mode that covers the likely air lane. The outer ring should look slightly uneven: a fully symmetrical ring gives attackers an obvious central entry and makes your traps predictable.
Level 5 Builder Base alternative: longer pathing for a coverage trade-off
Choose this alternative when replays show ground troops reaching the core together. Move the Builder Hall one compartment behind the center, then build a zigzag route toward it with two staggered wall turns. Put the Crusher at the first turn, the Double Cannon at the second, and the Hidden Tesla beside the final turn. Place the Multi Mortar behind the zigzag so it covers both turns.
Keep the Air Bombs behind the Builder Hall and move Firecrackers to opposite corners. Use storages and Army Camps to lengthen the outside route, while leaving one apparently open side that actually redirects troops toward the Crusher. Put Spring Traps on the second turn and the Push Trap before the final Hall compartment.
The trade-off is deliberate: this level 5 Builder Base layout creates better pathing and buys more defensive shots, but its damage is less concentrated than the compact core. Prefer it against ground spam and attacks that repeatedly arrive as one group; return to the compact design if air troops or a precise side entry reaches the Hall too easily.
Replay symptoms and targeted placement fixes for weak entry paths
- The Hall falls after one wall break: Move it one compartment deeper and close the nearest corner gap. Replace the building that first attracts troops with a storage or Army Camp so the entry takes longer.
- Troops walk around your defenses: Remove one outer building from the escape side and add a short wall segment to turn the route inward. Do not add walls randomly; make the change force attackers into Cannon or Crusher range.
- The Crusher never activates: Move it onto the shortest ground path and place the Spring Trap one tile before its approach. If troops split before reaching it, shift a storage to make that lane more attractive.
- Air attacks reach Firecrackers untouched: Move Air Bombs to cover that entry and relocate one Firecracker to a diagonal pocket. Separate the defenses instead of stacking them behind the same wall.
- Cannon Carts destroy the core: Move the Double Cannon and Hidden Tesla to opposite sides of the final turn, then put a Mega Mine on the first open tile where carts usually deploy.
