Our Deep Gnome name generator combines compact given names with shadowy, practical surnames for underground characters. We also separate those results from surface-born Gnome naming, so you can choose whether a character feels secretive and svirfneblin-inspired or inventive and traditionally whimsical.
Below, we give ready-to-use names, explain the useful overlap, and then treat Miqo’te names as a separate system with tribe, gender, and lineage conventions.
Deep Gnome name generator
Ready-to-use Deep Gnome given names
Deep Gnome given names work best when they sound short, wary, and slightly unusual. Hard consonants, clipped syllables, and subtle references to stone, shadow, or minerals create the right tone without making every name literal.
- Brizzen
- Dalvyn
- Erkki
- Glim
- Heska
- Jorvik
- Kezra
- Lurri
- Myzra
- Nevvit
- Orzrik
- Qelra
- Rilkin
- Sazni
- Vekka
- Wizzle

Surnames, compounds, and naming rules
Pair a given name with a clan, trade, or place surname. Deep Gnome surnames can describe a resource, a survival skill, or an ancestral deed. Two-word compounds feel especially appropriate for clans that record history through practical accomplishments.
- Basaltwhisper
- Blackmantle
- Cavernmark
- Chiselhand
- Darkdelver
- Emberstone
- Fungiwarden
- Glowmoss
- Grimshard
- Ironroot
- Nightvein
- Silentspark
For a quick formula, use given name + clan surname: Qelra Nightvein, Orzrik Chiselhand, or Heska Glowmoss. A single-word clan name can sound older and more secretive, while a descriptive compound suggests a living trade or reputation.
Female Gnome names and patterns
Female Gnome given-name list
These female Gnome names use brighter, more musical sounds than the Deep Gnome list. Repeated vowels, playful endings, and flexible consonants suit inventors, illusionists, travelers, and other surface Gnomes.
- Alvissa
- Bimble
- Calindra
- Dulcetta
- Ellywick
- Fennella
- Gimwizzle
- Hollibee
- Izzalyn
- Jessa Quill
- Kettlespin
- Luluberry
- Merrigold
- Nimrella
- Orlissa
- Pippa Geargrin
- Rizzy
- Tansy Copperkettle
Shared roots, surnames, and useful overlap
Both naming styles can use compact syllables, inventive consonant clusters, and surnames linked to craft or family history. The difference is emphasis: Deep Gnome names favor restraint, darkness, and endurance; surface Gnome names favor motion, color, curiosity, and clever wordplay.
We can therefore reuse a root without treating the cultures as identical. Vekka Glowmoss sounds like a Deep Gnome herbalist, while Vekka Tinkertop feels more surface-Gnome. For a female Deep Gnome, choose from the darker list or use a restrained surface name such as Heska with Ironroot. Keep the surname consistent with the character’s community.
Miqo’te names and structure
Tribe, gender, and name conventions
Miqo’te naming follows a different cultural structure, so we should not format it like Gnome naming. The two major groups are the Seekers of the Sun and the Keepers of the Moon.
- Seekers of the Sun: A recognizable format uses a tribal initial, an apostrophe, and a given-name element, such as R’kahl or Y’vani. Male characters may add Tia for a non-breeding male or Nunh for a breeding male who holds that tribal position.
- Seeker women: They commonly retain the initial-and-apostrophe pattern, with a family or lineage identifier when one is used. Y’vani Rhul reads differently from a male R’kahl Nunh.
- Keepers of the Moon: Their names generally use a personal name followed by a family name, with family identity traditionally passed through the maternal line. An apostrophe is not required.
Convention-aware Miqo’te examples
Use R’kahl Nunh for a male Seeker who leads a hunting tribe, Y’vani Rhul for a female Seeker scout, or Amari Mewrilah for a female Keeper whose surname honors her mother’s family. For a male Keeper, Kehri Aliapoh follows the personal-name-plus-maternal-family pattern without borrowing a Seeker title.
