We should not use the same design at both stages. A strong Builder Hall 5 layout depends on a compact core and controlled ground pathing, while a Builder Hall 6 base must protect against stronger air attacks, improved ground pushes, and the newly available second stage.
Use the plans below as starting layouts, then move walls and traps according to the attacks shown in your replays. The goal is not to make every building unreachable; it is to make the fastest route pass through several defenses and lose time at each turn.
Builder Hall 5 Layout Plan: Defensive Core, Funnel, and Trap Priorities
For a Builder Hall level 5 base, we should build one compact central compartment and two uneven approach lanes. Keep the Builder Hall inside the core rather than on the outer wall, but avoid placing every defense directly beside it. Attackers should reach the Hall only after passing through a Crusher or Double Cannon and changing direction at least once.
- Build the core around the Builder Hall. Place the Crusher, Double Cannon, Hidden Tesla, and Multi Mortar so their ranges overlap the Hall. The Crusher should cover the most obvious ground entrance, while the Hidden Tesla protects the side that looks easiest to reach.
- Separate the air defenses. Place Firecrackers and Air Bombs on different sides of the base. One should cover the central Hall, and the other should cover the longer outer approach. This prevents one air push from reaching both defenses at once.
- Create a deliberate funnel. Use collectors, army buildings, and spare structures to close easy side routes. Leave one apparently open lane that leads toward the Crusher, then force troops to turn toward the Double Cannon instead of walking straight to the Hall.
- Prioritize traps at turns. Put Spring Traps where Boxer Giants or Raged Barbarians must change direction between walls. Use Push Traps to send troops toward the Crusher, and place Mines or Mega Mines just beyond the first defensive line where surviving troops group together.
Keep one Archer Tower on the perimeter to punish Sneaky Archers and edge-clearing troops. The other can cover the core. A Guard Post placed off-center is useful because defending troops pull an attack away from its planned route and expose it to the Crusher or Multi Mortar.
Builder Hall 6 Layout Plan: New Defenses and Common Attack Routes
At Builder Hall 6, we should make the core deeper and use the Roaster to control the center. The Roaster is especially valuable against air units that enter from one side, so it should cover the Builder Hall and one Firecracker without sitting directly beside both air defenses.
Place the Builder Hall, Roaster, Crusher, Double Cannon, and Hidden Tesla in a staggered core rather than a straight row. Put the Multi Mortar behind that core, where it can fire over the first wall layer. Keep the Air Bombs and Firecrackers on opposite sides, with one covering the bridge or most direct route into the base.
We should design for three common BH6 routes:
- Boxer Giant and Cannon Cart pushes: Put Spring Traps at the first forced turn and again beside the Crusher. Keep the Cannon Cart’s likely firing position inside the Multi Mortar’s range, not outside the core.
- Baby Dragon or other air attacks: Avoid lining up Firecrackers, Air Bombs, and the Roaster. Use Air Mines on the straightest approach and keep at least one air defense protected from edge sniping.
- Sneaky Archer clearing: Do not leave the Builder Hall, Air Bombs, or a key defense isolated at the perimeter. Use the Guard Post and a few harmless outer buildings to make archers reveal themselves before they can damage the core.
Builder Hall 6 also introduces the second-stage base. Treat the bridge as another funnel: make the first defensive line cover the entry, then place the O.T.T.O Outpost behind a bend rather than directly beside the bridge. Keep a high-damage defense covering the route between the first line and the Outpost, and use traps where troops must bunch up before crossing.
What Makes a Builder Base Layout Hold at Either Level
- Layered damage: We want short-range defenses near the Hall and longer-range defenses behind them. This keeps troops under fire while they break walls or retarget.
- Broken pathing: A straight corridor is easy for Giants, Barbarians, and Cannon Carts. Two or three forced turns make Spring Traps and Crushers more reliable.
- Distributed value: Do not put the Hall, all air defenses, and every high-level defense in one small compartment. A single successful entry should not remove the whole base.
- Time pressure: Outer buildings should slow cleanup without giving attackers a safe route to the core. We should use the perimeter to create distance, not just decoration.
Check that every important defense covers at least one likely entry and that no wall opening gives attackers a direct line to the Hall. Also test whether an attacker can destroy an air defense from outside its range with Sneaky Archers or a long-range troop.
BH5 vs BH6: Choose and Adjust the Layout After Replays
- Choose BH5’s compact plan when your main problem is ground troops reaching the Hall quickly. Its smaller defensive network benefits from a tight core, a single baited entrance, and carefully placed Spring Traps.
- Choose BH6’s split plan when air attacks, Cannon Carts, or second-stage losses decide the result. Use the Roaster centrally, separate air defenses, and make both stage entrances require a turn.
- If the Hall falls first, move it one compartment deeper and close the shortest outer route. Add a Spring Trap at the first turn rather than placing another trap randomly.
- If air troops reach the core, move one Firecracker away from the other, rotate the Roaster to cover the entry, and place an Air Mine on the replayed flight path.
- If Giants break through but Carts survive, move the Multi Mortar behind the core and place traps where the Carts stop to attack walls. If Sneaky Archers cause the loss, remove exposed high-value buildings and move the Guard Post toward that edge.
We should change one area after each group of replays, then test again. A layout is improving when attackers must take a longer route, lose a key troop group to a trap, or arrive at the Builder Hall with too little time and damage to finish the base.
