Builder Base level 4, 5, and 6 Base Layouts: A Progression Guide

For Builder Base level 4, we want a compact core that protects the Builder Hall and punishes the first ground push. At Builder Hall 5, we split that core to create misleading routes. At Builder Hall 6, we add layered defenses so attackers cannot reach the Builder Hall after taking one direct lane.

Use the level comparison below when choosing a style: BH4 favors compact ground defense, BH5 favors split pathing, and BH6 is strongest when it controls both ground and air approaches.

Core Builder Base layout principles: quick comparison, upgrade shifts, and repeat-loss diagnosis

We build each layout around three decisions: where the first troop group will enter, which defense it must meet first, and where the second wave will be redirected.

  • BH4: Keep the Builder Hall, Crusher, and strongest short-range defenses close together. The compact shape protects against simple one-lane attacks.
  • BH5: Introduce a second compartment and an offset junction. The meaningful upgrade change is creating a forced turn instead of expanding the original square.
  • BH6: Use an inner core and an outer defensive layer. The next upgrade shift is layered pathing: attackers should spend time clearing one zone before reaching the Builder Hall zone.

To diagnose repeated losses, watch three replays and mark the first building destroyed, the entry tile, and the defense that dealt the most damage. If all three attacks use the same entry, move a cheap outer building inward, place a spring trap on the connecting tile, and shift a key defense behind that route. If entries vary but the Builder Hall still falls quickly, strengthen the inner core instead of adding more outside buildings.

Builder Base level 4 layout: compact core, key defenses, trap funnel, and likely path

Place the Builder Hall slightly behind the center, with the Crusher directly in front of it and a Double Cannon covering the Crusher’s approach. Put the Cannon and Hidden Tesla on opposite sides of this core. This makes the first ground group choose between two defended entrances rather than walk straight to the Hall.

  • Place Archer Towers on the left and right rear corners, with Firecrackers behind the core rather than on the outer edge. This protects them from early ground troops while still covering air units.
  • Use outer buildings to form two short funnels. Leave one narrow opening on each side, but do not create a complete ring that lets troops walk around every defense.
  • Put spring traps in the one-tile links between the Crusher area and side defenses. Place mines just outside likely wall breaks and a Mega Mine behind the first tank-targeted defense.

The likely path is outer building, side opening, then Crusher. That is the intended route: tanks enter the core under fire, while ranged units remain exposed behind them. The upgrade change at BH4 is compact defensive density; avoid spreading the new structures so far out that the core loses support.

Builder Base level 5 layout: split core, key defenses, trap funnel, likely path, and the upgrade shift

For Builder Base level 5, place the Builder Hall in one central compartment and the Crusher in a nearby but separate compartment. Connect them with a narrow junction rather than putting both in the same square. This split makes a successful first breach less valuable because attackers must turn before reaching the Hall.

  • Keep the Air Bombs and Firecrackers behind the Builder Hall, covering the two most open air approaches. Put the Roaster-side or highest-damage defense near the junction so troops cannot cross safely.
  • Place the Guard Post and an Archer Tower on the side that looks easiest to enter. They draw troops into the longer lane while the core defenses attack from behind.
  • Set spring traps at the junction and at the turn into the Hall compartment. Put mines near likely wall breaks, but keep at least one trap away from the obvious entrance so scouts cannot reveal every threat immediately.

The likely path runs through the apparently weak side, turns at the junction, and reaches the Crusher before the Builder Hall. The BH5 placement change is the split core: we trade a little compactness for a second decision point. If attackers bypass the junction, move the outer funnel inward rather than adding a third isolated compartment.

Clash of Clans Builder Hall 6 base layout: layered core, key defenses, trap funnel, likely path, and the final upgrade shift

Build the Clash of Clans Builder Hall 6 base with three zones: an outer funnel, a middle defense ring, and an inner Builder Hall compartment. Put the Builder Hall beside the Crusher, with the Roaster or highest-level heavy defense covering the entrance to that compartment. Keep Hidden Tesla and the strongest single-target defense on opposite sides of the inner zone.

  • Place Firecrackers and Air Bombs behind the inner compartment, not together at one corner. Their overlapping coverage should protect the Hall from opposite air entries.
  • Use Archer Towers and Cannons in the middle ring, separated by buildings that slow movement. Leave no straight line from an outer corner to the Builder Hall.
  • Put spring traps on the final turns into the inner zone. Place Mega Mines where tanks stop to attack the first middle-ring defense, and use regular mines on the air routes that avoid your main defenses.

The likely path should be outer funnel, middle-ring defense, forced turn, then the inner Hall compartment. BH6’s final placement shift is layering: the first ring absorbs the opening push, while the core remains intact for the second wave. After every major defense upgrade, replay the same entry route; a changed range or damage value can turn a previously safe junction into the new weak side.
